The Isle of Man TT is one of the most extraordinary events in the world. It’s also held in early June, on an island in the middle of the Irish Sea. Weather is part of the deal.
This year it’s been a recurring theme. Rain has affected the schedule more than once this week, and each time we’ve had to think on our feet to make sure our clients are still getting the most out of their trip.
On Tuesday evening of race week, we received confirmation that morning racing would not go ahead, with a further update expected at noon the next day.
Rather than simply directing clients to their viewing locations as planned, we wanted to make sure the day still felt special. So we arranged a visit to the Isle of Man Motor Museum — a genuinely brilliant place for anyone with a passion for motorsport and machines. It turned a disrupted day into something a little different and, we think, something memorable.
From there, clients headed to their viewing locations for lunch, soaking up the TT atmosphere even without racing on the roads.
Earlier in the week, when weather forced changes to the TT transfer schedule, our partners helped us rearrange quickly and seamlessly. That kind of relationship is invaluable when you’re managing a live event in real time.
We can’t control the weather. But we can make sure our clients are looked after, whatever the day brings — and that sometimes means finding ways to enhance the experience, not just protect it.
If you’re considering a trip to the TT in the future, this is worth knowing.
