Travel doesn’t always go to plan.
Yesterday, adverse weather conditions led to significant disruption for passengers travelling to and from the Isle of Man, with multiple flight cancellations leaving many people stranded and searching for answers.
For travellers, these situations can be stressful. Plans change unexpectedly, accommodation may need to be found at short notice, onward connections can be missed, and uncertainty can quickly turn a difficult situation into an overwhelming one.
While the disruption itself was beyond anyone’s control, our team’s response demonstrated what customer service is all about.
As the scale of the disruption became clear, our staff immediately shifted their focus to helping those affected. Members of the team remained in the office until late, working through transfer changes, travel amendments and passenger enquiries. At the same time, other team members were at the airport to assist stranded travellers directly, helping them secure accommodation and understand their options for the hours and days ahead.
What makes their efforts particularly noteworthy is that many of the people they assisted were not Duke Travel customers.
In moments like these, that distinction becomes less important. The priority is helping people who need support.
The Isle of Man has long been known for its sense of community, and yesterday our team embodied that spirit. They worked alongside airport staff, accommodation providers and transport operators to help visitors and residents alike navigate a challenging situation.
The travel industry often focuses on destinations, experiences and memorable holidays, but behind every successful trip are people working hard to support travellers when things don’t go according to plan. It is during these difficult moments that the true value of customer service becomes most apparent.
We are incredibly proud of every member of the Duke Travel team who stepped forward yesterday. Their willingness to go above and beyond, stay late, adapt quickly and help complete strangers reflects the values that underpin our business.
Travel disruption is never welcome, but it can reveal the very best in people.
To our team, thank you. Your professionalism, compassion and commitment made a real difference to many travellers yesterday, and we couldn’t be prouder.
Because at the end of the day, travel is about people, and helping people is what matters most.
