The UK government has introduced the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), which is mandatory for many travellers entering or transiting through the UK.
Who Needs an ETA?
From 8 January 2025: Eligible non-European travellers must have an ETA to enter the UK. Applications opened on 27 November 2024.
From 2 April 2025: Eligible European travellers will also require an ETA, and applications will open on 5 March 2025.
By 2 April 2025: all visitors who do not require a visa—except British and Irish citizens—must have an ETA before travelling to the UK.
UK Residents
You do not need to apply for an ETA if you reside in the UK. This requirement applies only to visitors who are not British or Irish citizens.
US Residents Travelling Via Dublin
Do I need to apply for an ETA? Yes, you are required to apply for an ETA, as you are not a UK resident.
Key Details About The ETA
- The ETA costs £10 per person.
- It is valid for multiple trips over two years or until the holder’s passport expires—whichever comes first.
- It allows stays of up to six months for tourism, business, short-term study, or visiting family and friends.
- It is required for transit through the UK, even if you do not pass through border control.
- Travellers must apply for their own ETA; third parties cannot submit applications on their behalf.
How To Apply
You can find full details and submit your application via the official UK government website: www.gov.uk/electronic-travel-authorisation.
We strongly recommend that you check your eligibility and apply for your ETA in advance to ensure a smooth travel experience. If you have any questions, please refer to the official guidance or contact the relevant UK authorities.
Safe travels, and we look forward to welcoming you soon!
