ISLE OF MAN YEAR OF THE RAILWAYS 2023

In 2023 the Isle of Man will celebrate two milestones on the Heritage Railways.

On Saturday, 01 July 2023, it will be the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Isle of Man Railway Company Ltd, which first operated on 01 July 1873.

A special commemorative day to mark 130 years of the unique Manx Electric Railway, which first opened from Derby Castle to Groudle Glenn on 07 September 1893, will take place on 10 September 2023.

An eight-day festival from 23 July to 30 July 2023 will mark the two anniversaries of the award-winning heritage railways.

If you plan to visit one of the Isle of Man events in 2023, look no further than Duke Travel, as we can arrange a bespoke trip to the festivals.

Experience the South on the Steam Railway, ride on the Horse Trams along the Douglas promenade or take the Manx Electric railway to the northern harbour town of Ramsey.

Manx Electric Railway – an unforgettable journey along the east coast on this unique Island electric railway which dates back over 100 years. Travelling from Douglas to Ramsey via Laxey on the island’s east coast.

Sneafell Mountain Railway – a journey winding high up into the Manx Hills to the Island’s Highest Summit, Snaefell Mountain, 2,036 feet above sea level. Departing and arriving from Laxey.

Steam Railway – a journey of nostalgia as it gently rocks through the countryside in the south of the Isle of Man. The railway from between Douglas and Port Erin with stops in Castletown and Port St Mary, to name a couple.
